The Synchrona Waste Management Zanzibar Project will be providing up to 21 Megawatts per hour of electricity (24/7) from a 500 ton per day waste to energy plant and up to 200 Megawatts per hour of electricity (24/7) from a natural gas power plant at a competitive price to the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. Both plants will be located in the Fumba Free Zone, 14 km South of Stone Town, Zanzibar.
The project consists of a 200MW Natural Gas power plant for the island of Zanzibar. During the development of the project, it will be determined if it would be viable to locate 100MW in Zanzibar and 100MW in Pemba, rather that the full 200MW being located in Zanzibar.
The project consists of a 15 to 21MW Waste to Energy plant that will process 500 tons of waste per day.
300 tons per day of Municipal Waste will be provided by the Zanzibar Municipal Council (ZMC) in Stone Town, ZMC district. A further 50 tons per day of waste will be collected by Synchrona Waste Management Zanzibar from the remainder of the island and 150 tons per day will be collected by Synchrona Waste Management Zanzibar from the island of Pemba.
