As a result of the IPCSA power project, Volco Power has engaged in lengthy discussions with local industry within the Saldanha region, spanning from Saldanha Bay North toward Namibia. Currently Industry within the Western Cape of South Africa are constrained by high priced diesel, LPG, Paraffin and HFO for firing in boilers and other industrial usage.
It has been determined that LNG can be supplied to industrial off-takers within the Western Cape at least 12 to 18 months before the IPCSA power plant is commissioned.
Current market research indicates that LNG has the potential to compete with the existing fuel markets, creating industrial growth in the region, which would increase supply opportunities. Currently the existing fuel market between diesel, LPG, Paraffin and HFO within a 250km radius extends to over 20Mill MMBTU per year.
